“I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name” is an art Installation by Namibian visual artists Christine Skowski and Raphael Scriba.

The two say: ” Man has always endeavoured to conquer nature. Only a few rare places in the world are so harsh and hostile, that his attempts to tame the wild were and are still futile, small, and ridiculous.

“The desert is a place where time seems to stand still. Man only passes through. He tries to leave his landmarks, to conquer or tame the harsh and hostile environment, but in the end his efforts are futile. Nature claims back the respect that mankind tends to neglect, reminding him of its boundaries and laws.

“Contemporary and historic media are mixed and combined in this installation, evoking reflection on past and present, on the laws of mankind in comparison to the never changing landscape, reminding us of the human smallness and perishability.”

      Walvis bay ramsar site

The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance is an intergovernmental treaty adopted in 1971 in Ramsar, Iran. The treaty was established to provide the framework for national action and international co-operation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their associated resources. Namibia is a party to the Ramsar Convention since 1995 and has four wetlands listed as Ramsar Sites of International Importance.

Wetland conservation and wise use is important for Namibia as wetlands are unique ecosystems that provide much needed ecosystem services to many communities and associated biodiversity.
