In a joint press statement released late Wednesday afternoon, Air Namibia and Natau confirmed that they had reached a settlement on the wage dispute and a strike would no longer take place.

The joint statement read:

Air Namibia and NATAU would like to inform the flying public and all stakeholders that we have reached an agreement on the wage increment dispute for the financial year 2013/2014.

This brings an end to weeks of uncertainty after the airline was served with a Notice of strike which was due to start on 05th March 2014 at 00h00 – midnight.

The positive outcome of the negotiations is testament to a renewed vision and commitment to the success of our National Airline. All parties engaged extensively to find amicable solutions to the matter at hand, taking into account the challenges the airline faces for continued sustainability.

The parties have agreed to consult continuously in future, to avoid similar situations occurring, as any planned industrial action impacts negatively on all Namibians and visitors to our beautiful country.

The statement was signed by Paulus Homateni Nakawa, Head of Corporate Communications at Air Namibia and John Kwedhi, general secretary of Namibia Transport and Allied Workers Union (Natau)
