On the topic of young men going about village life, exceptional community leaders abound!

Marcus Kamburu is one of those men who aid and support vulnerable members needing assistance and guidance in the Mayana community east of Rundu.

Amongst his duties as secretary of the community (which falls under the leadership of Chief Angelina Matumbo Ribebe of the Shambyu tribe), Marcus aims to be a role model for others.

“I often think ahead to what will happen if we don’t take care of our people and traditions.

Culture is very important to a successful society and we need to preserve it and ensure that it lives on. Money is our biggest obstacle. Traditionally we measured our wealth in terms of cattle and crops. Nowadays the general consensus is that money makes you rich, which is a misguided idea of reality. I want to lead my people in the right direction – back to their roots – and go down in history as the man who made a difference in his community.”
