On Thursday, President Hifikepunye Pohamba confirmed a number of recommendations, name changes, new regions and constituencies, made by the Delimitation Commission for the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN). These recommendations have effectively created two new regions, increasing the total number of Namibia’s regions from 13 to 14. 

In addition several town names and a regional name were changed.

The major changes are as follows:

  • The Kavango region was divided into two, namely Kavango East and Kavango West.
  • Lüderitz was renamed as !Nami≠nûs
  • The Caprivi region was renamed the Zambezi region
  • Schuckmannsburg was renamed Luhonono

Several new constituencies were also announced.
