Situated in the center of the capital city, Windhoek, you’ll be hit with the view of skyscrapers – among these some of the most renowned hotels in the country. Kalahari Sands Hotel and Casino has welcomed competition to their business from the Hilton Windhoek Hotel close by, which recently launched its casino business and with it came re-branding to the name Avani Windhoek Hotel and Casino.

Fast Facts:

  • The re-branding took place on 22 December 2014 after an 80% stake was purchased by the Minor International Group. No operational changes have been made to the business since the new owners took over, business and operations have been continuing as normal.
  • Previously the major stakeholder of Kalahari Sands were Sun International, they now only hold a 20% stake in the business against the 80% share held by the Thailand-based Minor International.
  • The partnership was formed by acquiring a majority stake in African Properties, which is one of Africa’s leading hotel, resorts and gaming companies.
  • The hotel currently has a room occupancy rate of approximately 70%
  • It has 173 rooms designed for comfort and style
  • The idea of the partnership is for Minor International to manage the hotel and Sun International to manage the casino
  • The Minor Group owns and operates eight properties in five African countries and the total number of operations it owns in 19 countries is 118 establishments
