According to the coastal newspaper, the Namib Times, the port authority Namport has temporarily closed the Pelican Point Jetty in Walvis Bay until further notice.

The newspaper quotes Namport Communications Director Jo-Ann Stevens, as saying the closure comes due to safety concerns that “necessiated the immediate closure”. Stevens also told the community newspaper that the port authority is “in the process of investigating the feasibility of repairing the jetty, as we have no use for it.”

She said the use of the jetty by tour operators, has always been “at their own risk”.
