Saras Saran – Namibia Craft Centre

Sara Basson has been making crafts and curious for as long as she can remember. Before she moved to the Namibia Craft Centre three years ago, to open her stall named Saras Saran, she had been selling her crafts on Windhoek’s streets since the late 1980’s.

The majority of items for sale at her stall are hand-made by Sara personally. She says she was taught to sew from an early age by her mother, and has based her life on these skills. “I really like making things with my hands. I will continue doing this until my dying day”, she says while her hands are busy putting small beads on a doily.

Sara’s young son also sometimes chips in these days, and two hand-made mobiles made by him are for sale at the shop.

She also collects all types of decorative wood that she looks for whenever she is in her hometown, Leonardville.  Some of her bestsellers include knitted dolls, placemats, doilies, and mobiles.
