October 23, 2013Air Namibia has announced the appointment of Swiss National Rene Gsponer as the new Chief Operating Officer for the airline, with effect from November 4.
According to a statement by the national airline, the 50-year old Gsponer will serve in the Air Namibia Executive Management Committee. His new position will entail the direct responsibility for all Air Nambia’s flight operations, maintenance and engineering, as well as airport services functions on a global basis.
According to the statement “Gsponer brings along an extensive knowledge and experience of over 27 years in international airline industry, covering operations performance improvement and optimisation, maintenance and engineering planning, flight operations, safety, security and airline operations quality audits, on-time performance airport hub efficiencies, strategic business leadership, business process redesign / improvement training and organisation realignment”.
Gsponer previously served at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as a Senior Aviation Consultant from 2006 to October 2013.
He holds several educational qualifications in mechanical design and engineering as well as industrial engineering from different institutions in Switzerland.
