October 12, 2013This week, Uahekua Herunga, Minster of Environment and Tourism did not hide his mounting excitement over the start of the 10th Adventure Travel World Summit, to start in about two weeks. This is the 10th annual summit and the first to be held on African soil.
The Minister spoke during parliament on Wednesday and said that Namibia is excited to host the 700 delegates expected to arrive in the next few weeks. He said this was an ideal opportunity for Namibia to tell it’s conservation story to influential leaders in the adventure tourism industry.
While the official proceedings will start on October 26th, the delegates of around 700 people, will start arriving from the 20th onwards, to take part in the five day pre-summit adventures that have been prepared for them.
ATWS participants, who comprise adventure travel industry leaders, and members from the international press including National Geographic, CNN, Time Magazine and the New York Times, will take part in various adventure itineraries (120 of which were offered and booked), visiting 28 conservancies and 18 joint-venture lodges.
These pre-summit adventures will be able to give the delegates a true taste of Namibia’s as an adventure destination and bring the visitors face to face with Namibians working towards sustainable tourism in the country.
