September 26, 2013A hundred and seven paintings by seventy students aged between seven and seventy of the Barbara Bohlke Art School will be exhibited in the Upper Gallery of the National Art Gallery of Namibia from 5 October to 25 October.
Having animals as a theme, the exhibition is entitled ‘Creatures, Great and Small’ and the proceeds will be donated to the SPCA of Namibia. All paintings are of the same size (30cmx30cm) and are sold for the same affordable price.The artworks consist of a wide variety of media ranging from paint (oil and acrylic) to collage as well as pastel and pencil drawings.
This is not the first time that Barbara and her students have showcased a themed exhibition. This year’s exhibition is a follow up on last year’s very successful “Blooms for LifeLine/Childline” which was displayed at the Goethe Centre. Acclaimed for their high quality, the 92 paintings depicting plants were sold in the record time of less than one hour. All proceeds were donated to Lifeline/Childline.
This year’s exhibition will be a little different, as it will also feature some artworks with the theme of animals from the permanent collections of both the Arts Association Heritage Trust (AAHT) and the National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) .These works will not be for sale but will complement the paintings by the art students. The exhibition promises to be even more exciting than last year’s, with birds, insects, wild animals, pets, sea and even mythological creatures hanging alongside some of Namibia’s most renowned artists’ work.
The exhibition ‘Creatures Great and Small’ will be opened by Liz Komen, Director of NARREC ( Namibia Animal Rehabilitation Research & Education Center) on Friday, 4 October 2013 in the Upper Gallery of the NAGN at 18h30. The exhibition will be on display until Friday, 25 October 2013.
