Natura Africa – Namibian gifts of nature
December 19, 2013Foodie – Ina Cramer, our beloved ice-cream lady
December 21, 2013Situated 22 km east of Swakopmund on the ‘other side of the river’, is Oranje Hoewe, where former Dutch natives Cathy and George Ellis grow the freshest vegetables imaginable.
Ironically, Cathy admits that both she and her husband are computer people whose only experience with ‘farming’ amounts to nurturing the small tomato plant on their balcony when they lived in the Netherlands.
But upon moving to Namibia and viewing the selection of fresh produce on the shelves, they decided to take matters into their own hands. Today they have been providing vegetables to the coastal town for more than 10 years.
A selection of asparagus, tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach, broccoli, green beans, radish, salad leaves and fresh herbs is offered for sale every Wednesday and Friday morning in front of Photo Behrens in Tobias Hainyeko Street. Come early and buy the cream of the crop. Call Cathy on 081 347 2005
