We have stories and histories that are woven into the landscape. We have elders who produce medicine from the trees and plants around us. We have musicians and dancers that celebrate our identity. We have objects whose secrets can be unlocked by a visit to the museum. We have artists, chefs and fashion designers who keep our cultural knowledge dynamic and alive. Our heritage is the most valuable bank in Namibia as it is the source of the knowledge that makes us Namibians!
Heritage Week 2013
Heritage is Namibia’s Knowledge Bank and we should all embrace ours by sharing in our knowledge. This is what the team behind Namibian Heritage Week’s aim is with this year’s event. And the theme is by no means limited, with an open invitation to everyone and anyone to share ideas on how they can engage the whole country.
Some of the current suggestions are booking a local cultural group to give a performance; arranging a trip to a local heritage site or museum; wearing traditional clothing during the week; serving special Namibian food dishes and drinks; making a display about an aspect of local heritage; and organising a talk about your heritage.
Embrace your legacy and share your heritage ideas by visiting the Namibian Heritage Week Facebook page. Heritage Week will be held from 16 to 22 September 2013.
