Namibian haute cuisine at Gathemann Restaurant – WIN a dinner for two
May 4, 201344% of Namibia’s land area under conservation
May 6, 2013One of the things that distinguishes Namibia is the fact that our entire dune studded coastline, home to the Namib desert, is under some type of conservation status. That is the entire western, Atlantic ocean, bordering strip of desert.
Of course, that is not the only thing. The Namib desert is home to a number of indigenous animals and plants which are unique to this desert as a result of having had to adapt to the harsh environment. Quirky, unforgettable means of survival is another distinguishing mark for our desert.
Then there are the dunes. Spawling in undulating waves across hundreds of kilometres, some say these are amongst the highest and most beautiful dunes in the world. Which makes for a pretty awesome place to play. Dune boarding, dune climbing, exploring and flying. These are just some of the adventures possible here.
For the adventure traveller, a trip to the Namib desert, should top the list of things to do in this lifetime.
And to underline this fact, is the recent nomination by the Mother Nature Network of the Namib desert as one of the top 10 “unforgettable desert adventures” on the globe. Thank you Mother Nature Network, we simply could not agree more.
