Foodies : Icy sweetness at Raith’s
December 18, 2013Natura Africa – Namibian gifts of nature
December 19, 2013Mewiliko Gift Shop at the Namibia Craft Centre is owned and run by Anna Pandu Hango. Hango has been based at the Craft Centre since 1999 selling a variety of souvenirs, crafts and beauty products made from natural Namibian ingredients.
Anna sells a wide variety of cosmetic products, including bath salts and soaps, oils, perfumes and lip balm. These products are made from natural indigenous plants such as marula, !nara, commiphora and ontanga (a wild melon).
Furthermore, Anna sources souvenirs and crafts from across Namibia and has also started a range of cups and plates hand-painted with typical Namibian motifs, such as the White Lady painting.
Visitors to the Mewiliko Gift Shop can also find bottle openers fashioned from the warthog horns and springbok horns. Popular picks include a variety of African themed salad spoons made from wood or cow horn.
A range imported from Kenya includes carved cow horns with AFrican motifs and cow horn toothpick holders.
A popular range of products include ostrich egg lamps and candle holders fashioned from iron to portray African people.
Anna says the craft centre is an ideal place to sell her products as it serves as a central tourism hub. Anna says she takes great effort in ensuring that her shop is able to provide small items that will allow tourists to remember their trip to Namibia in future.
