November 12, 2012A five year partnership between Ohlthaver & List group of companies and the IFA hotels and resorts, plus the hotel management company Kempinski was dissolved last week. The companies cited the economic downturn as a major factor in the break-up.
Sven Thieme, Executive Chairperson of the O&L group, said the slow economic recovery world-wide has had a major impact on the tourism and travel industry.
As a result, the companies, which came together to manage and launch tourism related accommodations, found it necessary to sever their ties. Thieme explained that for now, plans to build a luxury hotel in Windhoek is been put on ice and the development of a new Strand Hotel in Swakopmund is being reviewed.
Thieme said that O&L are “reviewing its business model and the outcome of the review will then be tabled to the relevant authorities for ocnsidration”.
All management duties at Mokuti Lodge and Midgard Country Estates, will now be handled by O&L exclusively.
