Situated on the eastern border of the Etosha National Park, the Onguma Private Game Reserve is reaching out to local communities by supporting the neighbouring Uukumwe Combined School in Oshivelo.
Based on the immediate needs of the school, Onguma has launched a campaign to provide stationery for the learners.
Onguma also hosts environmental education lessons in the Etosha National Park and Onguma Reserve to introduce environmental awareness to more children from the school, and has helped establish a ‘foster’ relationship between the Uukumwe Combined School and Windhoek Gymnasium, with the latter assisting the former by providing teaching materials, coaching teachers, and arranging teacher exchanges.
The school currently hosts some 700 learners, sixty per cent of whom are from the minority Hai ||om San people. Want to help out? Buy a stationery pack from one of Onguma’s camps and donate it to a needy scholar.
