Big Foot does cycle tours

May 3, 2013UPDATE: Now you can gaze at the stars too
Onjala, near Windhoek, is Namibia’s own personal story lodge.
Starting with the random meaning of the Herero word onjala, which means ‘finger’; and including general manager Heiner Soltau’s involvement in the building process; his wife Zelda’s amazing initiative in creating the best wellness centre in the middle of the African bush (don’t forget about her golden onjalas!); and Steven, the horse guy, who is also Steven the waiter.
There’s a story around every rocky corner. And there’s Klaus, the solar chef, who is also a champion pianist and lover of Scottish terriers; the ever-smiling front-desk manager Leticia; and kitchen hand Rosalia, who makes the best home-made bread in the entire world.
But these stories are by no means where the magic stops.
Here you can jump on Viola the lazy horse and go for a canter amongst zebra friends and crazy wildebeest. Steer clear of the giraffes though, as the horses don’t seem to be too fond of their long-necked counterparts. The latest addition to this unpretentious little haven is a romantic Bush Spa, and Onjala is destined to become tops for nighttime admirers with one of the country’s largest telescopes soon to be installed here.
