Although heavy cloud cover and sultry humidity have been the order of the day across much of Namibia, the rain experts say that we must be a little bit more patient for the big rains.

“The rain that everyone is expecting” is not due quite yet, Albertina Anderson, a forecaster at the Namibia Meteorogolical Service said on Friday.
She said that despite the hopeful signs, Namibians can only expect a few light thundershowers or rain during October. The big rain is expected to start at the end of October or November.
As for the direct outlook for this weekend, Albertina said that the partly cloudy conditions, which have been visible over the greater part of the Namibian interior, will continue this weekend.
“But the prospects for rain for this weekend does not look good. Expect the dry air to remain in circulation over the interior parts of the country”, she said.
She added that the hot to very hot temperatures – on average from the mid-to upper thirties – which have exasperated air conditioner use within homes,cars and offices, will not change significantly in the interior over the weekend. “The hot to very hot weather conditions will prevail today and tomorrow”. On Sunday there might be a one to two degree drop.
Namibians living in the south are more lucky. They can expect the thermometer to drop to the twenties over the weekend, and especially by Sunday, as a cold front is expected to move into the area. So some relief there.
At the coast, overcast conditions this morning have given a way to clear conditions, and with the “fresh to strong southerly winds” to batter the south and interior from Saturday, it is expected that clear skies will prevail at the coast during the weekend.
