And the feeling when taking that first step into the awe-inspiring Fish River Canyon. A step into an unfamiliar world. Is it fear, excitement, anxiety, eagerness, adrenaline, or just blank emotion?
Three’s company? Bull, that kite will not fly for me. I think more than one is a crowd. But I realise that for most (normal?) people this is not what they have in mind when planning a trip (holiday/camping). Being a one/ two-person tripper, I think I can be quite selective if I must do that crowd-camping thing.
Even in the land of sand and freedom, time is a precious commodity and these days it is more limited and precious than ever before. Lately, we have found ourselves with little time to enjoy the land and the environment, and even less to sleep out.
I always had a stereotypical notion of the perfect honeymoon: sandy beaches, scuba diving adventures, perhaps jetting off to somewhere exotic like Zanzibar. It never occurred to me that travelling locally, that camping or even gravel trails could make for a dream honeymoon. For my husband, the latter defined perfection, and so that was what we did. Providently.
